08 July in Cold Lake
Well this is it folks! The busy season is in full swing with the possessions taking place from all of the early house hunters. With all of the severe weather we have been having lately its a good idea for home owners to check their sump pumps to make sure they are working and have those down spout extensions down to direct the water away from the foundation of your home. There is nothing worse than having water in the basement on possession day. This is also a great time to get rid of all of the clutter and garbage that you have been stockpiling but please, don't leave the garbage behind for the new home owners!

Lots of moving going on in Cold Lake! Homes are being bought and sold and the moving trucks are running all over town. Hopefully Mother Nature will see fit to give us some sunshine to do all this moving in. Its good to know there is lots for the kids to do to keep them out from under foot. Our 5 theater cinema has lots of kid friendly movies showing, Kinosoo Beach has a a great play ground and of course - the beach! Day camps are being held at many of our city's churches so take a dirve around and check out the possibilities. You can also click on the links below for more information.

What an awesome weekend here in the Cool Pool! The weather was fantastic if a little cloudy on Saturday and judging by the posts of all my friends and clients on Facebook, much of it was spent on the golf courses, lake and parks around our fair city. Yours truly spent a goregous Sunday playing in the Lakeland United Way Charity Golf Tournament where they raised over $27,000. A good time was had by all and of course - lots of money spent at the charity auction.
And here is a news flash for all of you looking for a new and cool place to eat - my buddy Jo and I had lunch at the new Picante Cafe on the water front. Great coffee bar and panini sandwich place with interesting flavours and a great view. Why not give it a try? I will post a picture soon.

I don't know about all of you but I am getting a little tired of all this liquid sunshine! We need some good old fashioned hot, sunny days so that we can dry out. And speaking of hot, sunny days - if you think you might be moving next year, why not take the time on one of our rare, sunny days and snap some photos of your home and yard looking all lush and green. That way when I list your home for sale the first picture says: "Buy me! I am an oasis of green back yard with lots of room for summer Barbeques." you will be amazed at the difference it makes. In the mean time - keep those down spouts pointed away from your foundation and make sure that sump pump is working while I build the arc!

Its August everyone and Cold Lake is known for its short summers so get out there and enjoy it! This week is supposed to be sunny and dry all week so take advantage of our wonderful lakes and parks and explore all that there is to see and do. for those of you who are looking to move before the school year begins, now is the perfect time to take a look at what is left on the market. There are some wonderful family homes that are priced to sell and are available for quick possession so that you can be moved in just in time for the new school year. Interest rates are still low and our local economy is chugging right along so hop on.

How will the latest economic uncertainty effect the Cold Lake Housing Market? It is really too soon to tell. In 2008 when there was a similar downturn in the World's stockmarkets and other cities in Canada experienced an increase of homes on the market and a decrease of qualified buyers, Cold Lake only experienced a stabilizing of the housing market. Prices neither went up nor did they go down. Homes still sold - they just took a bit longer. The companies in our oilfields worked with their employies to minimize layoffs and kept the economic ball rolling. The difference this time is twofold: the value of the Canadian dollar has gone down instead of up which should take some of the pressure of the Bank of Canada to raise interest rates and the price of a barrel of oil is relatively stable. This bodes well for our local economy - interest rates will continue to stay low for mortgages and the expansion work in the oil field should continue. This is good news for the City of Cold Lake and our housing market. So try not to worry too much - Cold Lake seems to weather storms better than most markets.

BE BEAR AWARE!!!!
There have been many bear sightings in our fair city this week including 2 that had to be put down because they were repeat offenders. Please be careful when out walking or hiking, take bear spray with you or have a bell attached to make noise. Keep your garbage in containers and maybe even in your garage so that the bears don't have any reason to come and visit you. We are a rural city and we have lots of wild life that we get to watch and enjoy - lets respect them and keep our eyes and ears open.
